ABOUT

The Friends of the Music was established in 1983 by choir members, musicians and lovers of church music to support and help develop music in Holy Trinity.  The Friends support the work of the Church Choir and Music Group and organise a programme of fund-raising events and concerts throughout the year.

For most weeks of the year the Friends present a lunchtime recital - see Soundbites.

In 2008 the Friends presented Holy Trinity with a chamber organ and two years later, in time for the church’s 800th anniversary celebrations, a small grand piano was purchased. This piano has since been replaced with a larger one. The two instruments have greatly enriched the services as well as being appreciated by visiting choirs and orchestras.

In 2014 the Friends presented Holy Trinity with an electric piano which was purchased to replace an existing old upright piano.

Each year, the Friends commission a new anthem which is heard for the first time at the Shakespeare Service which occurs during the Shakespeare Birthday Celebrations weekend. Details of these commissions are listed here.

Bursaries and scholarships are awarded to young musicians at Holy Trinity Church. These include support for Choral Scholars and Organ Scholars. Application for consideration for these should be made no later than the end of March with a starting date date in September of each year. Anyone considering this should contact us via this email address.

Support for the choir at Holy Trinity has included financial assistance with tours to Italy, the US, Canada and the Netherlands, as well when the choir has had residencies at English cathedrals including Lincoln, Exeter, Bristol and St. Paul's Cathedral in London. The Friends also supported the production of two CDs by the choir.
