Shakespeare Anthems
Since 1983 the Friends have generally commissioned a new anthem to be sung at the annual Shakespeare service in April. The texts for these works have included words by Shakespeare but the hope is that the anthems will have a more general appeal and be taken up by cathedral and church choirs for use in choral services. As the Shakespeare Service falls within the Easter season, some of the anthems have reflected that.

The powers of praise
The tyger
I will exalt you
I will lift up mine eyes
O sing unto the lord
At the round earth's imagin'd corners
The spacious firmament
Rise, heart
Jubilate deo
O praise God in his holiness
Lord, creator of light and life
Seek the Lord
Most glorious Lord of life
Great Lord of lords
Go forth into the world in peace
The King of kings
Let us now praise famous men
The mind of the maker
Bright sun of heaven
